Carter Slade is the original Ghost Rider, later rebranded as the Phantom Rider to distinguish him from the supernatural, motorcycle-riding Spirit of Vengeance. A 19th-century schoolteacher and champion of justice, Slade operates as a ghostly vigilante in the American West. Clad in a phosphorescent white costume and cape, he uses specialized tricks and "magic dust" to appear as a spectral figure while battling outlaws and protecting the innocent.
