Cerberus is the multi-headed "Hound of Hades" from Greek mythology who guards the gates of the Underworld to prevent the dead from escaping and the living from entering. Usually depicted with three heads, a serpent's tail, and a mane of snakes, he is the terrifying offspring of the monsters Typhon and Echidna. Despite his ferocity, he was famously overcome by heroes like Heracles, who captured him by hand, and Orpheus, who lulled the beast to sleep with music.
