Groot was a Flora colossi from Planet X, the capital of the Branchworlds, five gardens of suns and planets created by the Gardener.[8] Groot and his fellow Flora colossi, Tweeg and Gleef, were raised by their parents and the Arbor Masters, who served as teachers, protectors and monarchs. They learned through photosyntesis, as sunrise transmited the collected consciousness of generations of Arbor Masters into Groot and his peers. Growing in the environment, Groot did not get along with his fellow saplings, instead preferring the company of the "Maintenance Mammals" who the other saplings treated with prejudice.
