Jim Gordon is the Commissioner of the GCPD and Batman's essential ally. His daughter, Barbara Gordon, is a brilliant vigilante who secretly operates as Batgirl, an expert martial artist, and later as Oracle, a genius-level information broker who supports the entire superhero community from behind the scenes. Though her dual life is often kept hidden from Jim, he is generally depicted in the comics as being aware of, and proud of, her heroic dedication to Gotham.
