John, better known as Big Boss and formerly known as Naked Snake, is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Solid Snake) of the Metal Gear franchise.
He was once a legendary soldier in the U.S. Army and the leader of its special unit FOXHOUND, as well as one of the co-founders of the Patriots. However, after being forced to kills his beloved mentor the Boss and witnessing how various governments mistreat their military servicemen, Big Boss becomes increasingly disillusioned with not only his country, but world powers as a whole. Eventually going rogue, Big Boss forms the terrorist group known as Outer Heaven in order to create a world where soldiers are always needed, putting him into conflict with his younger clone, Solid Snake.
